The team behind the project are Arjan Spannenburg and Max Govers. Spannenburg has been involved in the gay fetish community for several years now and wanted to create a series of photographs that would showcase the beauty, diversity, and complexity of this culture. To find people for this project, Spannenburg and Govers chose to travel to Antwerpen in March 2023. Darklands is one of the biggest and most inclusive gay fetish events in Europe and features people from many different backgrounds, ages, and body types.

One of the key messages of "BEYOND BOUNDARIES" is that gay fetish culture is not just about sex, but is also a way of exploring and expressing one's identity and desires. The project challenges the notion that fetish is something to be ashamed of or hidden away and encourages people to embrace their true selves.
